No its a combination you dont have that choice.

Q: Will these be ok for name labels for clothes at a nursing home

Hi, I would say not because they have sharp teeth can sometimes not behave! As in, they are fiddly to clamp tight and your name tape ribbon is probably too thin to sustain the opening and closing of them, then they tear the fabric or pop out and the teeth can be exposed. I would use the plastic popper type instead.
