Q: has anyone tried m graham gouache and also holbein? how do they differ? (thank you for your help)

I have used both and go back and forth for my favorite brand. Holbein has more colors, m.Graham’s texture is creamy and smooth.

Q: Why is this about 1/3th the cost of winsor newton's permanent white gouache?

I echo Painterly’s comments. I am a professional watercolor artist. I used to paint with Winsor Newton exclusively but discovered M Graham and Daniel Smith. M Graham is excellent quality and you will do well to give it a try.

Q: Is this paint permanent when dry, and could it be used as white out on an ink drawing?

I would not use it on an ink based drawing. It needs to have a little water added to use-- think watercolors. That water would be likely to re-wet the ink beneath it.

Q: The $36 bucks is too expensive for 5 sets :(

I would consider under $8 a tube for professional grade pigments not a bad deal.
