Q: Can you plug headphones into the recorder so you can listen to recordings through those? And if so, are there any that people reccommend?

Yes, you can plug your favorite headphones or ear buds into the 3.5MM jack on the side of the unit. The audio is very good.

Q: Can this recorder be hooked up to a computer and have the contents typed for me?

This recorder does not come with any voice recognition software - which is what you would need to have a transcript made automatically. You would need to purchase voice recognition software such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking in order to type from tape. Programs like Dragon generally can only be trained to recognize one voice well so would not work for a interview or any type of group setting.

Q: What does Recording Scene mean. I see a microphone with 3 different numbers, but no explanation.

The recorder can be set using the 'scene selections' to allow a quick overall setting for a particular place, event, or scene wherethe user would like to record. If recording is at a lecture, that would be one choice of a scene, while dictation would be another. If you would please see this following link it is all explained pretty good... It's quite similar. The controls are moved a little bit-record, play, and stop are now on the front. I think the built-in microphones might be better. The color's different and the profile of the top is a little different.
