Q: Can this be played in any key?

This is a simple instrument to play ... IF you understand what most bass players play, and IF you are not attempting to play melodies. Melodies on this would be a REAL CHALLENGE. Bass players play on the first and third beat of every measure (standard 4/4 time) The notes they play are the 1st and 5th note of the chord. Say you are accompanying a song in the key of C. Your standard chords are 1 chord C, 4 chord F, 5 chord G. For the C chord the bass player would play the C on the first beat and the G on the third beat. For the F chord, they would play the F then C on the 1st and 3rd beat. And for the G chord, they would play the G then the D on the 1st and 3rd beat. For most bass players there is no difference between a major chord, and a minor chord because they don't play the 3rd. And 7th chords don't matter because most bass players don't play 7ths. With this info take a look at the photo and you can see that these notes are laid out next to each other. I don't know of any bass harmonicas that are draw. As far as I know they are all blow notes.

Q: Why is it called "orchestral?"

This is NOT a harmonica for playing tunes. It is designed in fifths. Meaning Blow a G. Just to the right of it is the 5th, the D. Just to the left of it is the fourth, the C. This is an instrument for a bass harmonicist in a orchestra, or somebody playing simple 1/5 bass lines while somebody else is playing the melody. Bass harmonicas are all blow notes. I have one of these and I love it. But I only use it for playing simple bass lines. It is designed for simple bass lines. Anything complicated, is nearly impossible. So, a 1/5 bass line would be G/D Then C/G. Back to G/D. then to D/A. Just an an example.

It is well built and plays great out of box.
