Nothing makes me cringe more than books for children and youth that oversimplify or just plain get science wrong. I also LOVE that this book teaches the scientific method. It’s real science! And I usually have most of the ingredients on hand. (Usually variations of water, oil, food coloring, etc)We had to ask Grandma if she had expired tablets of Alka-seltzer (she did) and we asked our optometrist if they had expired bottles of contact solution (they did). So there’s way to do these experiments very cheaply. My 3 and 5 year old LOVE doing these. My 5 year old actually understands the science (he’s fairly advanced, though) and we use it for bedtime reading. (Yes, we proudly fly our nerd flag.) My 3 year old just enjoys doing the experiments with us.As a bonus, my friend’s daughter had a science fair project and she couldn’t think of a simple way to show her chosen topic. Because I’ve read this book cover to cover I remembered there was an appropriate (SIMPLE!) experiment.
