Because only 2/3 of a tank of water was allowed due to new laws, I always had to add water with each load which then put pressure on the knob and that cracked over time (15 years). I found a video how to fix the water level so I have a full tank of water on a large load setting. My plumber fixed the water level. The new knob does not have a protection of a metal piece to strengthen it any longer so take extra care when turning. I take a star off it for the lack of metal reinforcement.
