I did not realize that I would have to buy maps for land. I knew you had to buy marine charts, but not for land. It will still work for hiking. If I were to get lost on a mountain trail, it leaves a trail I can follow back to where I started. It says Lithium batteries or NiMh batteries, but I tested it with alkaline and they lasted 20+ hours. I use it for fishing lakes and bays to mark structure or good areas. Cumbersome to input waypoints manually from charts or maps beforehand but it allows for a title or number and a description for each waypoint you enter.
