We discovered that the old one had given trouble because it had been fitted without the metal bars that join the inner and outer handles, so it relied entirely on the screws that held the handles in the door. My bathroom fitter had a lot of trouble fitting the new one, the worst problem being that he had to cut the metal bars to the right length to fit the thickness of the door. He said that what should have been a half-hour job took 3 and a half hours. I'm not sure how much this was due to the fact that the previous lock had been so badly fitted. However, it is now working well. I llike the fact that it locks the outer handle securely but can be opened from the inside just by depressing the handle. It feels solid and secure and the handles are comfortable to use. Having no concerns, I didn't install straight away... Sadly a big mistake as the handle is now fitted, and after working very well for 6 weeks, sadly the lock mechanism has failed internally (picture is of broken part) and this is now nothing better than a door handle with a pointless push button sticking out of it.
