To lock the extension poles simply twist them gently clockwise and then counter clockwise to unlock.The handle also opens up in three sections and serves as legs for the tripod. The base of the handles are rubberized which help prevent slippage on smooth surfaces.The phone / action camera holder holds your phone or action camera by clamping pressure from the spring assist jaws. The holder has ¼” threads on both the short and long side so your phone can be positioned in both landscape and portrait mode. There is also a ball and cup mount at the base of the holder that lets you easily position your phone or action camera and has a slot cut in one side allowing up to 90 degrees of movement.Finally, there is a rechargeable Bluetooth remote that is held in place on the handle by a magnet. With this Bluetooth remote you can snap pictures or videos with the remote attached to the handle. Or you can remove the remote and use it… remotely.For the price, this is a nice selfie-stick and tripod combination. As always, if I experience any issues I will update this review. ### ⭐⭐ Will not fit iPhone XS Max and bad locking system will not keep phone up. *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2018* I had high hopes for this item because of the other reviews but I have to say this item has many problems.1) The locking clip for phone is very small and will not fit larger phones.2) The locking clip will make you bleed. The locking clip spring is very sharp and very hard to pull open. My girlfriend cut herself so bad she almost needed stitches.3) The stand extends and is made of 4-5 pieces which you are suppose to turn to lock. They never lock! Ever!...You turn one and the other comes loose...You finally get them all locked and go to position the phone for a picture and the entire thing comes crashing down with your $1000 phone crashing to the floor.4) Its murder to fold back up.5) Just feels cheap. I dont know how it got good reviews but for me it was a bad experience. Twisting to lock the expansion is not that great. Even with small force it twists back and comes down. With Phone attached, the Tripod is not so great. At full height, Tripod is not sturdy enough to hold the phone and have to adjust the phone in an angle to prevent it from falling. Used Pixel 2, which is not much of a heavy phone. Don't ever think to use a compact camera on it. This is my first impression after giving it a try. I am gonna give it a swing this week somewhere outside to see how comfortable it is.Updated Review:After the original review, seller replaced the item and that one is good and sturdy.
