Can you tell me what other products I might need to buy?** A: Tracy. If you plan on vat dying look into getting the big bottles of powdered dye either from Jacquard direct or from Dharma trading. These little bottles are only meant to make 2 cups of dye at the correct concentration. Yes you should prewash with a good detergent like syntropol or Dharmas pro detergent. Then soak your rugs in a solution of 1 c soda ash per gallon of water (can use super washing soda, it's the same thing and cheaper) If you have hard water you may need a water softener like Calgon. If you are using dark colors you'll need pickling salt and urea to make your dye solution. The darker the color the more Salt. Gloves are a given.... but I suggest drop clothes and a good vinyl apron (cut one from an old felt backed plastic table cloth) Remember these dyes require a 24 hours processing time after you've dyed your item. put them in garbage bags and set them somewhere warm. Then you can rinse and wash. **Q: Can you use this to dye water to shoot out of a fire truck for a gender reveal?** A: Oh no, no, no......not unless you want permanent blue (or pink) spots on any fabric it touches.
