Its not really for splitting logs but ok if soft wood. I use it for splitting some shop bought kindling too which is usually too thick for me. I mounted it on a piece of wood and use a lump hammer to hit the wood. Much safer than trying to chop kinding with an axe. I have used it so much that think its now getting a little blunt but still ok. Will definitely buy again. **Q: What’s the chrome pipe in the picture for?** A: The chrome tube is only used if you are using the blade in conjunction with a Logosol Smart Log Splitter to split a log from both ends. The tube goes over the support pole and rests on top of the combined rubber and metal washers. **Q: What is the metal tube for?** A: The tube is only used if you are using the kindling blade with a Logosol or AGMA Smart Spltter to split logs from both ends. The tube is placed over the support pole to stop the two blades clashing. **Q: Will this go rusty if left outside?** A: It appears to be steel (no reason to suspect that it is stainless) though protected, except the cutting edge, with a thick red paint coat. I attached mine to a medium sized wood block as a base and rest that, in turn, on a larger block when in use. Consequently, mine can be kept in a garden shed, still on the small block, when not in use and, therefore, has not rusted. My guess is that it would rust if left exposed to the elements, especially after some of the paint wore off in use. On reflection, however, I do not see that rust would be a problem to the functioning of the device since the blade in not particularly sharp (not like a chisel), though it may well be aesthetically unacceptable. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quick and safe *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 5 May 2025* Brought this before my luck ran out and whilst I still had all my fingers to write reviews.. it’s simple, effective, quick and it works..No more close calls with an axe nearly savaging a finger, being super critical it could do with being slightly longer or maybe wider to ensure the wood split every single time but the safety benefit far outweighs this niggle wish I’d brought one sooner ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Simply Superb for Kindling *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 23 December 2021* I've struggled on for years using an axe to cut up kindling. Fed up, I took to Amazon to find an easier solution.This item is brilliant. I wish I'd found it years ago. It is so much easier and safer using this to cut kindling. I've a manged to cut a lot of kindling in very little time and with minimal effort. I'm not sure a rubber mallet will suffice, get yourself a metal lump hammer and it'll do the trick.I'm struggling to understand the negative reviews. Quite simply, this item is for chopping ALREADY split wood into KINDLING. My only gripe is that the blade cover is small and made of lightweight plastic - feels like it could easily get knocked off the blade, and would break if, say, it was stepped on or something dropped on it. A weightier steel cap would not get dislodged. All the photos on Amazon show it as having a different shape from the one I received, and it looks like it's made of steel not plastic. Also in reviewers' photos it looks like steel. The description on Amazon is unclear but there is no mention of any plastic parts - materials are described as 'steel'.
