The 46" x 24" 20lb lid opens from from horizontal to vertical & is hinged on the long side. Using the 10mm Ball Stud brackets from API the struts were easy to install once I figured out the correct location to mount the brackets. The Ball Stud Brackets are heavy duty & should outlast the life of the Struts. I used to use a piece of wood to prop open the lid but now I just give a slight lift to open the lid a couple of inches and the struts slowly open it the rest of the way to about 80 degrees. To close it only takes easy an downward push. The struts snap easily onto the ball links with no tools and remove almost as easily with a screw driver to release a clip making them very easy to replace when the time comes.
