I knowingly purchased this simply to protect the drive from scratches and minor wear and tear, I do not expect it to prevent serious damage and neither should you. That being said, the material is slightly padded so it could protect from small drops. My only gripe with this case, is that it will not close totally. The draw string method does close the top but there's still an opening, the reason being is the cable attached to the mac drive prevents you from totally sealing it, in my mind a zip would've been ideal as this does not change the dimension of the case the same way a draw string would.In Short, a nice peace of mind for an external device for a good price (although shipping from Germany was the same cost as the bag), however do not think you will keep it 100% dust free inside this. I simply got it so I could carry it around in my laptop without scratching the hell out of it.
