The chrome finish is very clean and smooth, and the knurling on the bar feels just right with and without gloves. The 28mm size feels substantial but not oversized. This bar is actually round. I have another Olympic bar (not Cap brand) that came as part of a complete set, and you can feel several flat spots around the circumference of the bar. When spinning the new bar inside the bearings with no load there is some squeaking, and I'll probably disassemble and lubricate it. Otherwise, there is no excessive play in the parts. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. It looks and feels like a high end bar but without the high end price. I have a small workout space and the 5' length is perfect for dead lifts, freeing up my 7' bar to become a permanent home on the bench.
