I decided to upgrade the Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes that came on my Specialized Rockhopper (2009ish). I've been taking a lot of steep, technical trails with big roots, rocks, burms and drops lately. Downright scary with the close to zero stopping power of the BB5, even after brand new pads. These brakes are a huge upgrade on the ride. So much more confident that I've got the braking power when needed. Installation was straightforward. The only issues were one of the rotor bolts was cracked (poor manufacturing) and for my old 18" 26er, the rear cable is a few inches long. I'll probably shorten that in the future. So far 8 or so rides - no fade, no leaks and great performance.
