Yes, it smells like rubber. It was made up of recycled tires... What do you expect? When I received mine it sat on my porch for a day. Then I brought it into the house and left it in the package for a week. Yeah I never got around to opening it. Then, I unpacked it and let it sit at my front door entrance to flatten for a couple days. It now only smells if you put your face close to it and sniff. How often will you be doing that? Not much I hope.I am using this to replace my carpet in my small Daihatsu Rocky (Think Suzuki Samurai and Suzuki Sidekick/Geo Tracker). I have already cut it almost to fit the back. This took 5 passes per cut and it is literally almost impossible to see where you cut before so you end up cutting over and over. It is VERY tough but VERY resilient. Think: This will last you your lifetime. It will never wear out. Your car will die before it does.Finally, yes this is expensive, but if it lasts forever as it seems it will, I will be happy with the purchase.
