Good quality, but not fit for purpose...

After finding a cracking deal with Bodymax on 3 sets of rubber hex dumbbells , 15KG, 17.5KG & 25KG I thought it was time to rack them all carefully in my little gym room. There were no reviews at the time and little info but as this rack kept popping up as a suggested supplimentary purchase I thought it must be suitable. I was wrong but first the good points. Its sturdy, well constructed, simple to construct despite there being no guide or simple IKEA type spanner. I had to heat the 4 plastic feet (warmed them in boiling water) to slide them into place but other than that it was easy. As I loaded the hex dumbells for the first time, I became concerned. I loaded the hex dumbells bottom up 25Kg,17.5KG then 15KG on the top, then I found the design flaw.... you couldn't remove the middle or bottom dumbells with unloading the dumbell above. So to get at the 25KG I had to take out all of them! Each dumbell was firmly seated on the top of the other, the flat faces perfectly aligned. I also experimented with my cast dumbells aswell but that was even worse, with the diameter of the plates making it impossible to rack more than one using any of my assorted collection. I contacted the Seller immediately and advised them of the design flaws and errors. I eventually got a response but it was to take me around the houses with phone calls and departmental transfers whilst on hold - so I gave up. I use the rack to store the dumbbells but pull them all out irrelevant of the workout size requirement. Something else I noticed was how narrow the actual rack "cups/holders" that take the handles is. I have quite large hands and with lifting gloves I could just squeeze my hand in between to pick the dumbell out, on a couple of occasions I've skin pinched my hands on returning them into the rack, its quite a nip with a 25KG dumbell! I'm guessing but possibly with a smaller hex weight the unit would work, but thats for somebody else to feedback on... You can stack hex's on the floor without the need for a stand, so I wasted good money...

Beware! Don't expect this to hold anything other than small, low weight dumbells.

Whilst this dumbbell rack is of solid construction I find it hard to see how it will hold anything other than small, low weight dumbbells, the distance between each dumbell slot is not big enough, meaning the dumbbells end up resting on each other rather than on the rack. I have a set 3 of Men's Health rubber dumbells, not particularly heavy or large, 8kg, 10kg and 12kg. However they don't fit this rack. It doesn't matter which order I rack them they end up sitting on top of each other making it difficult and awkward to get them out again. They look ok stacked on the rack but to get the bottom one's out I have to take at least the middle ones out first. Maybe this would be ok for smaller weight dumbells, perhaps 3kg, 5kg and 8kg or something like that. Anything bigger is almost certainly not going to fit.
