The optimal surface structure In order for cleaning bacteria to settle on or in a filter medium, the filter medium must have a certain surface structure. The larger the surface, the smaller the pores. From a surface area of about 450 m² per litre, the pores are so small that no bacteria can grow into it. As demonstrated in a university study, 270 m²/l is the optimal settlement area, as the pore size is precisely matched to the bacterial size and the bacteria can thus settle ideally. Sera Siporax offers exactly this surface. Biological aquarium filtration is a complex process essential for clean, healthy water. Cleaning bacteria in the filter ensure that harmful substances, such as B. excretion of fish, can be degraded in a biological way.
