Thanks** A: A very thin coat of Liquid White is applied to the canvas to wet it prior to starting the painting. It is intended to allow the other paints to flow better on the surface under the brush. **Q: How long Bob Ross Liquid White "workable?" I know it takes days to dry but how long before you can no longer effectively paint over it?** A: Though I've only used it a few times, and like to work wet on wet, I believe it really depends on how thickly you apply the liquid white. It does dry faster than oil paint, and since I use it only in a very thin application, actual working time is just a few hours. **Q: how long is the drying time for this product when applied** A: I took a class from a certified Bob Ross instructor and I was amazed at how thin he told us to apply it. It didn't take much to cover the canvas. And the paint went a long way when applied lightly. We painted a light pastel seascape. I was told it would take about a week to dry. So, I imagine it depends on how heavy you apply the liquid white and how heavy you apply the paint - and of course the humidity, etc. **Q: can this be used with acrylics... which are water based. I know Bob paints with oils Is there a similar materail for acrylics? I use canvas board** A: This is to only be used with oil paints, as this is an oil based type of base coat. As for acrylics, I know there are different type of mediums and retarding agents that can be used to extend dry time of acrylics and to help in blending, however I am not aware of any such 'wet on wet' sort of acrylic products, as oils and acrylics are two different beasts with entirely different qualities. Perhaps experiment some with something such as Liquitex slow-dri blending fluid/retarder, flow aid or gel mediums.....or a combination of different things. However, I think by the very nature of acrylics to dry on such a short frame of time, the 'wet on wet' will be tough to achieve on any level. This is where the real advantage of oil paints slow drying time is ideal for 'wet on wet', as it allows enough working time in terms of hours and even days to work on a painting at your pace without fear of racing against time to be on your mind in rushing you through your art. All honesty, if you're going for 'wet on wet', I'd suggest going with Bob Ross oils (they're designed heavy for this technique) and his base coats as your platform, along with a standard canvas (not canvas board). To address your use in canvas boards: I specifically recall Bob Ross saying that he doesn't encourage people in using canvas boards because the cardboard absorbs the moisture through the canvas while the artist is working on the painting and decreases the amount of working time you'll have. But to specify, he's referring to 'wet on wet' oil paintings and I believe you're referring to acrylics.
