It's strong, solid and is easy to open and close, although once you've collapsed it (with a touch of the same button on the handle used for opening it), you'll need to push the collapsed umbrella down toward the handle; this requires both hands because of the necessary spring tension for auto opening it each time. The fabric seems to be coated with Teflon for water repellency, and construction seems study for the most part. There is some minor rotational play noticeable only when you twist the handle while the umbrella is open, but I'm pretty sure that's a reflection of design/manufacturing limitations and not qualitative factors. It comes packaged in an acceptable card board box, but you might look at another more expensive model (or brand) if a gift box is is important to you. Overall, a solid and seemingly durable and reasonably compact umbrella right out of box. I checked it out, it's built like a tank. I think it will work real well. My old one has a broken rib. I think I can fix it and make it a car umbrella. Yours fits perfectly in my rolling case. When you are walking around Downtown Chicago, it's nice to know that rain will not be a big issue. The open and close button works perfectly, and that is a real handy feature. It quickly slips out of the case, and opens with the push of button.
