Some other issues. *by F***R on 6 September 2017* This is a good, secure stairgate although it does have some drawbacks. I will detail these: 1. Over secure. This says that it is for babies 6 - 24 months. A child much older than this would not be able to operate the lock. They will learn to climb over it long before they have the strength and dexterity to open it. It is a one-handed operation, but you need to push forward one element with your thumb whilst you lift a second with your fingers and both of these need a reasonable amount of pressure. 2. I don't know the technical name of the element that presses up against the door frame on one side and has a screw which slides into the gate on the other, so I'll call it a bracket (see photo). The bracket slides into and does not screw into the gate. This means that initial fixing can be tricky which the brackets falling out whenever they are angled. Once in, it's not a problem. It's only really a concern if you intend to move the gate often. 3. There is a tightener on the screw of the bracket. If you move this too close to the cushioned end of the bracket, it's incredibly difficult to loosen again.
