They are unsightly so I have them facing inward, hanging on potted plants and facing the post. These didn't look pretty from the street so wanted to have them out of view. They are actually colored as black center, yellow ring, then red ring, and remainder is reflective silver/chrome-like. I know by the picture they look like they would be somewhat camouflaged in a natural setting, but they really are not. Will be leaving them up year-round to see if they work or not. So far, not anything to get excited about...just okay. Originally gave 3 stars for this. UPDATE January 2014: These are a waste of $$. These are definitely NOT working, and I have them in a place where I can leave them up year-round and they are not seen from the street by other neighbors. What was used for this mounting and where can I purchase it?** A: I have no idea where they got this mounting. I used a similar mounting that I found at the home supply store and slightly modified for my use. I used an epoxy to attach them to the house. **Q: Do they outsmart crows?** A: Crows were the reason these were purchased. The crows were pulling squash, cucumber, & sweet corn plants. In addition to the reflective scare medallions a pair of Owls with swivel heads were purchased. Can't say for sure which item kept the crows out of the garden, but the nasty birds stayed away perched in a tree and made a lot of noise and continue to announce their disapproval. **Q: Are their metal bird repellents that use wind?** A: Yes there are Metal bird repellents that use the wind.
