Review: Exactly what you should expect - Great way to get OEM fluid for my Subaru. Well packed and a reasonable cost. I will use this vendor again.
Review: Perfect for 4EAT Phase 2 (this was for a 2006 Forester XT, 220k miles on the OD) - TL;DR: works just as intended and IS the manufacturer of the Subaru HP variant. Idemitsu HP is the same. Its what Subaru recommends over Dexron since 2006 for these transmissions. To give a little background: My center lockup clutches (MPT if you know) were binding in turns which often happens in automatic Subarus when the oil gets old or dirty. It feels like a shutter when you make tight turns, and you can hear the tires binding up. Its 50/50 that or Duty C solenoid went bad. Need to fix it or risk burning the MPT clutch pack. One of the first things that should be done, even if the oil is dark, is to give it a change. The oil pan holds 5 quarts, the transmission itself holds a total of about 15. Subaru service bulletins state( in 2006) that after '06 they do not recommend Dexron, they recommend Subaru ATF-HP. This is that very same HP formula. Idemitsu makes the blue Subaru bottles of the same stuff but at about half the cost that Subaru sells their blue bottles at. Well, one change is all it took. One change and the MPT broke free within the first tight turn. The transmission never shifted or felt better. No more hard shifts, no more shift hesitation. No more solenoid buzz. no more " idk which gear to choose" syndrome. I will change it 2 more times after periods of about 500 miles to get all of the fluid new, just as many in the community recommends. If you see glitter in your old oil, time to get it rebuilt. I did not and its the only reason why i changed it even though it was dark and didn't re-add some of the old oil back( often done because that glitter is usually clutch material and without it, you will slip gears). No clutch material from any of the MPT or drive gear clutch packs in the oil and no broken teeth in the gears. If this oil change doesn't help with MPT bind, could be your Duty C solenoid but that usually throws a code and makes your ATF TEMP light blink 16 times when you start the car. If its Duty C, you will need more of these as you have to drop the pan and do a little work.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How can i be sure this is the authentic idemitsu brand and not fake, and, this meets the specs for a 2011 subaru outback 3.6r?**
A: (I'm thinking the 3.6R got the old school 5EAT and not the newer CVT.)

The shipment I received appeared to be genuine, equivalent to Subaru ATF-HP. If it was counterfeit, they did an extremely good job copying the bottle and the label; and what would they have put in the bottle that would have been significantly cheaper than ATF-HP but not as good?

Bottom line, I don't know how you would tell if the product you received was counterfeit.

**Q: What color is good on the stick after 150,000?**
A: New, out of the bottle fluid is red. If you haven't changed it in 150,000 miles I would bet it is dark brown and more viscous. Red is best. For a quick solution, with the motor off you can siphon most of the fluid out of the holding tank and replace it with this fluid. After a week you can do it again and you should be good.

**Q: Is this good for 2008 Subaru Outback automatic transaxle (2.5i 4-cylinder engine)?**
A: This is the fluid that Subaru specifies. See page 11-24 of your owners manual for more information on recommended fluids and capacity for your automatic transmission. I use this ATF in my 2008 Subaru Outback 2.5i.

**Q: Anyone know if I can put Idemitsu hp in my 05 3.0 outback that already has subaru hp fluid in it? I've been told yes, just need to add a qt or 2**
A: My understanding is yes.
