**Q: If I set this to keep starlings off. . . What happens if multiple birds try to feed at one time? Will total weight activate this?**
A: yes it will ! 7+ sparrows activate the shutterPeter

**Q: what diameter pole does it use? 1"?**
A: Yes , pole provided with feeder is one inch in diameter. ( 4 slip joint sections) .

**Q: Is a replacement perch available?  The rest of the feeder is intact.**
A: If the perch is welded in (like on the newer models); the answer is no.  However, my older feeder models had a wooden perch and this can be replaced by purchasing the right sized dowel at any Home Depot or Lowes.

**Q: Could it be mounted on a 4"x4" post?**
A: Yes.  I attached a threaded iron pipe flange (round) that accepted a 1" threaded pipe.  I secured the bottom of the flange with four screws to the top of the 4"x4" post.  I then attached a threaded 1" pipe stub threaded at both ends.  You can get these parts at the local Home Depot.  I screwed in one end of my pipe stub into the flange and greased it to prevent rust.  I attached the bird feeder mount to the feeder with the attached hardware (pole mount) and simply slid the pole mount onto the top of the pipe stub.  The bird feeder mounted sturdily since the pipe stub was 1" and the pole is designed to mount on a 1" pole.

We have had one of these for about 2 years and it does keep squirrels out. About 17 years ago we moved to an area with a significant black bear population and at least once a year the bears pull the feeder down and pry it open. they do damage it but I have been able to bend things back into shape. I bought another as a spare since I fear that there will come a time that the damage will be beyond repairable. It appears that the build quality has remained consistent to what the first one was.
