I do know my cat took one sniff and wouldn’t go near it! **Q: How does this not do the opposite of what is intended with a phosphorus level dangerously higher than allowed by vets for a renal failure cat food?** A: Not sure where you found the phosphorous levels in this product, but all I can say is that the product works! We went the traditional route when our cat ended up with renal failure. The cat food that the vet sold to us was Hills Prescription Diet Kidney Care dry food. Intuitively, that felt wrong to me. Why would you feed a cat dry food when they have kidney disease? The cat already isn't getting enough fluids in him, so I did some research on the subject. Traditional vets go to veterinary schools funded by the animal food manufacturers, so what do they learn? Feed the animals the manufacturer's food, which makes them worse. You are kind of on your own if you truly want your animal to get better. There are no holistic vets in my area, but you can google holistic vets and find out what they recommend for your cat. So, of course, number one is to get them drinking more water, skip the dry food, only give them wet, etc. You can do the research yourself. Protein content is a major source of debate between allopathic and integrative veterinarians. The idea behind protein restriction is that you stress the kidneys less and build up less toxins in the bloodstream. While this may be true, cats as a whole are much healthier on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. Our cat is 16 and he is doing great now, since I decided not to follow our vet's advice.
