Review: Worked for my application. - I picked this drill press vise to drill into metal. It fits my bottom of the line, 5-speed, 8" Central Machinery Drill Press from Harbor Freight that sells for around $50. This 3" size fit the drill table well. For that drill press table, you'll need 4 hex bolts that are 1-3/4" long including the bolt head, with the threaded part being 7/16" in diameter. Also you'll need two washers and a nut to fit that size bolt properly. The outside diameter of the washers should be 1". I attached the bolts, one in each slot with a wrench so that the crank of the Wilton vise was facing me. One washer under each bolt head, one above each nut, the nut facing down under the table. Tighten secure but do not over tighten the bolts. Center the drill carefully and pre-punch the work with a centering punch to keep the drill bit from wondering too much. I prefer to use Molybdenum bits to drill metal as they're stiffer, less prone to overheat, stay sharp, and last a long time. Set the belt of the drill press on the slowest speed to drill metal. Overheating the bit increases the likelihood the bit will break and wear prematurely. For safety's sake, wear eye protection, don't force the bit into the work, and drill a tiny bit at a time. Raise and lower the drill bit like a woodpecker. If it smokes you're going too fast. I also recommend using a couple drops of Tap Magic cutting fluid (for use with steel, or Alumatap brand for aluminum) to keep the bit cool, lubricated, and to prevent it from smoking. I don't know which drill presses this vice will fit on. But the spacing of the slots on this one works with the press I mentioned above. The jaws have good depth which I needed. Be careful as to your drilling depth, if you go to far you can hit the metal rod of this vice. There is a drill depth indicator on the drill press. Move the drill head up and down to see that you won't hit it before you apply power. Good quality unit, did the job well, though I had to glue the balls on the handle back on with superglue gel, which was easy enough. Also I put some synthetic grease on the screw.
Review: High quality, works very well. - Quality is very good. Much better than the cheaper vises.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the spacing between the mounting slot (center to center)? Thank you**
A: Hi Craig, it is 5 & 3/16 c to c. Slots are about 1/2 wide.

**Q: where is the serial number?**
A: These are not serialized. They have a stock number but that's all.

**Q: Do the jaws stay parallel when clamping? I've had drill presses where the jaws move a bit when clamped.**
A: Yes to a point. I am not aware of any vises that will remain parallel if something is clamped off center and the sides of the piece being clamped are not parallel. This vise has a rod that run the length of the opening down the middle to help keep the movable jaw aligned. As it wears the movable jaw can move more.

**Q: How wide are the slots that can be used to clamp this to the table?**
A: The slots measure 2.17" L x .51" W.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ High quality, works very well.

Quality is very good. Much better than the cheaper vises.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Top quality industrial grade vise
*by P***L on May 23, 2026*

Terrific vise. I needed it to hold thin material while I drilled a tiny hole. Sounds easy but took some time to find a good enough quality vise to do the job. This vise is top quality industrial grade equipment. Paid for itself several times over the very first time I used it
