**Q: Does this act like purigen? Does it make the water clearer? Or is that the carbon?**
A: The BioMax media is basically an insert that provides a place for beneficial bacteria to grow.  These good bacteria will help reduce the levels of ammonia and nitrite in your system.  Purigen is an actual absorbing type product that removes impurities from your system water.  I listed some differences between purigen and carbon below.Purigen ) Removes things in the water before they turn into Nitrates slowing water degradation) Clears up the water making it sparkling clear) Can be regenerated multiple times) May last for quite awhile before it is exhausted and needs to be regenerated depending on it use) Does not effect or remove medicines ) Turns darker brown color as it is exhausted and lightens again after regenerationCarbon) Removes most medicines) Cannot be generated) Usually is exhausted relatively quickly) Removes things in the water but does not clear the water) Can leech things back into the water it once removed if it is not changed once exhausted) Shows NO changes as it is exhaustedCarbon is similar to the purigen product in that it absorbs odors, discoloration and impurities in your water but they areHope this helps answer your question.

**Q: Does it matter what size? I want to save money and get the 70 gal for my 3 gal tank lol**
A: The size doesn't matter, I bought the cheapest one and took the biomax out of the bag so they fit-for a 3 gallon from the 70, divide the biomax bag equally into about 12 piles, then put one of the piles into your filter and save the rest (as you will want to change them out eventually) this should give you enough filtration for a 3 gallon with out overdoing it.
