It works well, and my son says it feels like it is doing a good job of protecting his thumb. I found that after I boiled it and molded it to his thumb (and the inside of his mitt) that it has held its shape well (it has been installed there for over a year now). My son is in high school and regularly receives pitches, as catcher, in excess of 90 mph (to give you an idea of the environment it is used in).
