Its not perfect, and I look forward to future improvements, but for this early iteration, its amazing.Here's why... I have trained dogs for 20+ years for many things, including SAR, detection, service and so on. And anyone who has trained dogs know that they don't always learn the way you intend. Say you are training your dog to sit, and you use a reward. If you time your marker and reward wrong, rather than teaching the dog to sit on command, you may inadvertently teach the dog to sit only when your hand is reaching into your reward pouch, not when commanded. The same goes for all other reinforcement techniques. Timing is everything with dogs, as is signaling.So, if you are constantly reaching for the remote trainer transmitter around your neck to communicate with your dog, then gradually your dog may become dependent on that hand motion. Or if it doesn't see the transmitter, then it won't bother following thru with a command. Not good.This little device allows you to mix it up, and remove that variable from your training. It also gives you a bit more dexterity as you no longer need that hand on the transmitter constantly.Personally I like to wear it like a watch around my non-dominant wrist, often whether the dog is wearing an active collar or not. I want them used to the sight of it. But I also move it around to my belt or maybe a coat pocket. When training, I usually roll it up into my palm for a more subtle ability to activate the collar. That way, the dog doesn't confuse the command or any reinforcement with the visual of me reaching for the button. Its not perfect, and you can still cue your dog unintentionally with this tool too, but it sure makes it easier for you to use the collars to their full capacity.I like that the button only handles a single collar function. So if you set it to Page, then the collar will vibrate when you tap the button. Also, if you have multiple dogs, know this will only work for 1 collar/1 function. My problem child (also unsurprisingly still quite young) wears collar #2. She is the only dog currently undergoing active consistent training, though collar #1 is still worn with my elder good boy just in case he feels like forgetting his lessons sometime. But I know that when I tap this button, only one function on the pup's collar will be triggered. That's reassuring. Also somewhat frustrating if you want to use several collar functions on several dogs. Good luck not getting yourself confused. So I suggest keeping it as simple as possible. Use this for the collar and functions that you need most often. If you use the audio beep as a recall cue, as I do, and you are using it often, then set the wrist band to the audio function. Make your life easier. If you are trying to use multiples of this device then always place them in the same order/place so you don't accidentally tap the wrong button.As for the device itself, it is fairly tough, though still pretty fragile. I wish it was water resistant at the very least, as dog training happens in the rain the same as sunny days. But its not impossible to keep it dry like the collar itself, just more of a hassle.It weighs next to nothing. The elastic strap that comes with it is very lightweight and soft against the skin, and is adjustable for any sized wrist or forearm. Its also easy to clip to a vest or slip into a pocket (and also easy to lose, so be warned). So far the battery life on mine has been excellent.It may seem a bit expensive, but for the capability it gives you to boost your training to the next level, it's worth it. And remember, you can just reprogram it to a different function/collar as needed, so you don't necessarily need 10 of them to juggle at a time.Overall, this is a ecollar game changer. I personally used an old set of a now-closed brand of ecollars for 15 years. This new 1900X system is like entering the modern era for me. I am a bit smitten with all the features of the new (to me) Dogtra 1900X. Is it absolutely perfect? No, but its been very reliable and effective with my wild young GSD who swims like an otter, runs and jumps more like a malinois than she probably should, and whom I would not be surprised to find dangling from the ceiling fan some day. She is a psycho fur missile, and has put this system to the test, and then some. And its amazing. Highly recommend for high drive dogs like her. But, also for dogs like my more mellow elder with the lower drive and higher sensitivity. This system allows for a broad range of stimulation according to each individual's needs. Just make sure your Dogtra system is compatible with the Handsfree Square, of course.While this Square technology is a big reason why I chose Dogtra brand for this set of e-collars, I wouldn't have chosen Dogtra had it not been for the quality and reputation of the brand. They are very reliable (worst thing that can happen in training is a unintended stim/correction with an ecollar, and many other brands historically are not reliable). The system is tough, versatile, and absolutely worth it. Don't ever cut corners if you choose to go the remote collar route with dog training. Dogtra isn't the only reliable collar on the market, but they are high up on a relatively short list. If you care about your dog, do not pinch pennies on training equipment. I can't stress that enough.*And yes, she is wearing her ecollar training in the lake in this pic. Not a single issue ever. I love using it, but the battery life sucks and I’ve replaced the battery, reprogrammed it to the collar and it still doesn’t work. It’s happened with two of these.
