Review: Contract printer - It was not explained before I purchased this printer that it is a contract printer, and the prices for number of prints were ridiculous. Also could not find how to get the free 6 months toner. After first use it developed a fault which I could not clear. Printer returned
Review: It just works. - I was a little wary due to some reviewers saying it was very difficult to set up the app and get it working, but to my experience this was a breeze to set up and get running. In fairness I already had a HP account for my inkjet with an Instant Ink account so it was just a case of connecting it to my computer via WiFi and adding it to my HP Account. Those without an account will have to register and set up a payment method for Instant Ink which I highly recommend as Toner and Inks can be so expensive. I ran a print from the HP Smart app via my phone totally wireless and it was quick and very well printed. It's a great inexpensive laser printer that works straight out of the box.

I was a little wary due to some reviewers saying it was very difficult to set up the app and get it working, but to my experience this was a breeze to set up and get running. In fairness I already had a HP account for my inkjet with an Instant Ink account so it was just a case of connecting it to my computer via WiFi and adding it to my HP Account. Those without an account will have to register and set up a payment method for Instant Ink which I highly recommend as Toner and Inks can be so expensive. ### ⭐ Poor quality printer

HP used to make splendid printers. I had two workhorses that lasted 20 years and gave excellent service. In contrast, this machine was a disaster. It was wrecked by faulty software which, when it worked, had only one aim: to make sure you were tied in forever to HP laser cartridge replacements. Normally, it did not work and would not permit you to use the machine because you had not completed the sign-in process, even if you had! After endless fruitless feed-back loops, the software stated that there may have been a technical error and help should be consulted. The online help pages were then, in their turn, full of endless feed-back loops. Whoever tried to design this software had obviously spent too long reading Kafka's novels. Amazon's behaviour, in contrast, was impeccable. A return was immediately approved and a refund paid. Perhaps Amazon should not longer stock this item. The HP user forum (which I had not consulted in advance) is full of very colourful critiques of this desperately sad piece of kit. I have since bought a Brother laser jet (alas, at a price that Amazon was unable to match) and am now enjoying a splendid laser printer with software that actually works. Obviously, Japanese quality pays off. David
