Plugged it in, patched it across and the window popped on the screen. Would have been very disappointed if Linux did not have great tools for doing imaging, backup and copy of files. Backed up my computer without a hitch. Despite having a USB 3.0 port on my computer it seemed to take a while to copy the files over. I suspect however that this was due to my computer and not the drive. Have only had it one day and haven't tried out backing up anything else yet. Since it is an external and the bottleneck is the USB 3.0 (Running AVERAGE data transfer rates), I would not worry about the speed of the drive. My 5900 Drive transferred 30Gigs of data from the External to the C drive with an Average speed of 115mb/s. My 7200 drive (WD) transferred the same files at an average of 120mb/s. The speed difference is within the range of the USB fluctuation. **Q: Since this one has its own power, will this work if I have it in a dock and I'll have my computer be plugged in and out from the dock w/o ejecting?** A: No! Because it not a WiFi or Bluetooth back drive! **Q: Is this compatible with os sierra for the mac** A: Should not be a problem. Read/write speed is good. Drive is quiet. This is one of the drives, the other is an 8TB Seagate, used as a backup drive to my Seagate and WD NAS (RAID) systems. What more can I say but it works as advertised. However, after 3 Years, it just quit working. This is not a complaint about the drive failure. Drive failure happens all the time. In fact, I will most likely replace this drive with the newer Seagate. I did open up the case and connected to a computer.
