When I first started, these helped me see what shapes and types I would use the most often, and the different possibilities you can create with so many options. Now that I know what I tend to use the most, I am on the hunt for a brass or metal stencil to replace the plastic, flimsy ones. You do have to be gentle when you trace with these because they do bend as your drawing, and you won't end up with straight lines because of it if you push on them too hard.
