Review: Great for Touching Up Your AR-15 - This product does what it advertises, and does it well. I have a Windham Weaponry HBC AR-15 with a flat black anodized finish(like most AR-15s have) that started to get some dings and scratches from use, such as a silver spot on the brass deflector from brass being ejected. I bought Birchwood Casey's "Aluminum Black" product, but it didn't quite work out because it caused a chemical reaction that "kind of" turned the aluminum black, but didn't actually apply a new finish to protect the metal, plus the coloring didn't really take well. This is basically a sharpie marker that applies a fresh coat of flat black finish to gun metal. If you get up close you can tell that it's there, but it blends in pretty well and covers up those nasty silver spots to protect your metal from the elements. I've used it on the brass deflector, the dust cover, and even the flash suppressor with good results. It does take a minute when you first start using it to get the paint to flow. You have to take out some scratch paper and press in on the felt tip 4 or 5 times and then hold it to get the paint to start flowing. Other than that though, I'm very pleased with this product and it has made a worthy addition to my gun cabinet.
Review: Matches the paint on my Sigma lens, but not so permanent - I bought this touch up pen for some nicks on one of my Sigma lenses, and it's a solid match with that finish. I also figured I'd get some more use of of this by touching up my eyeglasses, which have a black paint baked on titanium. The original eyeglass finish was more of a semi-gloss, so it could never be a direct match (this pen is rather flat), but it was better than unpainted titanium. Alas it wasn't that durable in this use, and the touch up paint comes off quite easily. The upside of this was it was easy to get back to where I started, but still not a success. The nicks on my lens has held up better, but they weren't on such a challenging location. Since the pen did the trick for what I bought it for, I guess it's still worth four stars.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Have ordered above item & have noticed a few comments about properly cleaning before application. What do you recommend to use for cleaning and prep.**
A: I used alcohol to clean it. Here is the deal. If you are touching up the edge of something black it works ok but it won't match an area where you are trying to cover a scratch on a flat surface or barrel. The bluing pens work well for me. The black touch up pen did not. Hope this helps.

**Q: How does this do as rust prevention for gun touch-up?**
A: It will provide some minimal rust protection.

**Q: is this flat black**
A: Yes this is flat black.

**Q: How does it look on a new Colt 01991 Government in the almost-black matte finish? Thanks in advance.**
A: It should be OK on small scratches or the like. It's not a real flat black, it's more of a matte, so it should blend with the 1911's finish pretty well.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Had amazing results using this pen
*by T***S on February 9, 2013*

I have a baby eagle 9mm pistol in a flat black finish. I replaced the sights on the pistol and in doing so had to do some filing to make them fit properly. The filing of course exposed bare metal and by the time I was done I had quite a few small, hard to get to exposed areas that I honestly did not know how to fix. I was told to buy one of these pens by a friend of mine and I figured for the price it was an easy test. The pen has easy to read instructions and was easy to use. The chisel tip fit into grooves easily and kept the mess to a minimum. It is paint, so you can easily get it everywhere if your not careful. The product goes on somewhat glossy but after it dries it was a perfect match to my flat black finish. It worked so well that I had my friend pick out all the spots I painted and he was only able to identify about 1/3 of them and only because he knew I replaced the sights. I turned around and bought the gloss black pen as well as I was so pleased with the results of this one. Definitely recommend for small touch-up jobs.
