I am very disappointed in the size and quality of these pins, and as I stated in my feedback they are NOT 1.5 inches long, but 1 inch. I hope this helps. **Q: how to use them? i am new to Knitting :)** A: To add to Amanda's answer......These are used to pin down knit or crochet projects when blocking to correct size. As example, if your project is supposed to be 4 inches by 4 inches square, you can dampen the knitting/crochet and pin to an accurate 4 x 4 square and let air dry. When dry, your project should be 'blocked' to size. The pins do not rust so no probs with getting wet. I'm sure there are many other uses outside of blocking fiber designs. ;-> **Q: may they rust?** A: I use mine for blocking lace and they do not rust. **Q: Are these pins magnetic?** A: Sorry but no, their not magnetic. They work perfectly. They are smooth so the wool does not catch and strong enough to push into my blocking board. The T_head makes them easy to grasp to remove. I have also used them to pin pieces together while I'm joining them. They work fairly good but because they are so smooth they do fall out easily, but that is not really what they're for. I'm happy with this purchase.
