One comment here: there were a couple of negative reviews about the product being covered in "black paint" or "black grease." I'm glad to have read these reviews because they alerted me to be cautious when unpacking them (i.e.: NOT on a kitchen countertop or carpet & certainly not with fine clothing on.) There IS some residue, but it doesn't seem like paint OR grease; it's probably a byproduct of the manufacturing process. These are made of HEAVY black steel & they appear to be anodized (a coating with a protective oxide layer by an electrolytic process.) The residue seems to be a byproduct of the anodizing process, or perhaps the manufacturer uses a magnetic powder coating / paint. Whatever it is, it's this sort of thing; it's NOT wet OR greasy, but it does stain, & the stains ARE tenacious. Wear old work gloves when opening this item when it arrives. It's likely going to be used in the yard (patio) so there's no need to have it any more indoors than in a garage or shed. In time, the coating will likely wear off (not that this will leave them unprotected; again, they are VERY well made) & should leave less residue. Have a can of lubricant on hand; the rivets that form the hinges are stiff at first (again, a testament to how well made they are) but hardly inoperable. One reviewer suggested using gun oil; that would work well.
