The handle allows you to use significant force while remaining comfortable to use and the nylon end protects your glass from damage. I would recommend this as a replacement for any wooden muddler. I purchased this product several months ago and use it mainly for fresh ginger root. Prior to purchasing I tried a number of different options to get the fresh ginger root flavor and juice out into my dishes. I like a more intense ginger flavor. Nothing worked until I got the OXO muddler. It does a fantastic job, is easy to handle and cleaning is a simple rinse under water. My only regret is that I didn't purchase a metal cup to muddle in.
