The sheets are mainly for convenience, but these sheets are advertised to sharpen, too. No idea how I would verify that, but if it doesn't hurt (and everyone thinks it doesn't), then that may be an advantage over oil. You won't need to use oil if you use these sheets. **Q: Are the sheets better than using oil? Do i still need to use oil on my Fellowes M-7C if I use the sheets? Is oil much more practical and economical?** A: Oil is impregnated into the sheets, making it unecessary to use oil. Additionally, the sheets keep the blades sharp. I will never go back to oil-recommend this product! **Q: Has anyone figured out whether the sharpening compound actually helps? I'm a little skeptical that it wouldn't dull the blades, instead.** A: It doesn't dull my blades. It is a pro-active maintenance product, so I guess if it was dulling the blades I would notice it. **Q: Can you get more than one use with these sheet or is it a one time use only?** A: There are 12 sheets in the package. Not wanting to mess with oil I chose to try the paper impregnated with a lubricant. I researched a little bit on Amazon and chose these for a try. They seem to work great - no real mess or fuss - just pop them in and run them though then reverse for a 10 seconds or so and you're done. Price seemed competitive and the product arrived quickly in new condition. I plan on using them at least monthly - if any problems pop up I will amend this review.
