The exterior is a durable (plastic-ish) material and the inside of the flap that covers the screen is soft to prevent scratches. The case fits the device very snugly and I'm not concerned about the device falling out. The magnetic enclosure keeps the flap closed and I like how it folds and supports the iPad at an angle in landscape mode for working or watching shows. The elastic holder for the apple pencil keeps the pencil secure and I'm not concerned about it slipping out (although I wonder if the elastic will one day stretch, but the iPad may be replaced at that point. The cutouts for the connections (charging port, buttons) are adequate, I can plug in the pencil to charge without taking the iPad out of the case and the power and volume buttons are easily accessible. I'm very happy with this purchase and looked at several at the time. I would recommend this case to others.
