Thank you!** A: I hung mine in the shower about a year ago. They've been holding a large brush and/or towels the whole time with no problems so far. Not sure how much it matters but the surface they're attached to is perfectly flat plastic, and when I hung them the shower had almost never been used so there wasn't any (or much) soap residue. **Q: Is the adhesive already adhered to the grabber? Or could I replace it with 3m command strips?** A: There is a foam-padded adhesive already on the back. It is ok, but my wall is slightly textured, so I added some urethane craft glue to make it stronger. **Q: Does the adhesive damage the painted surface you stick it to ?** A: Unfortunately, I cannot answer this question with any accurate knowledge, this might be a question posed to the manufacturer. I attached these to the edges of my quartz countertops and tile wall in the bathroom knowing these are probably permanent locations. Based on the stickiness of the adhesive, I would not advise putting it on a painted surface, as removal may cause damage to the surface. The ones I had in our previous house were brushed nickel, but the same shape and although I'd bought those at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, they no longer carried them or any other similar type of towel grabber. I tried the one that fits over a cabinet door but not only did it not fit well, it marred the paint on the cabinet as well. I was glad to see these on Amazon, though I would have preferred brushed nickel. I've had them a couple of months so far and they work fine.Make sure you wipe the area you want to stick the grabber with isopropyl alcohol and then dry before attaching the grabber. Press firmly and wait a few minutes before inserting a towel. Just grab the middle of an edge of your dish towel and slide it in. To remove, just slide the towel up. These work fine for both terry and linen dish towels. I doubt I would ever use this type of holder in the bathroom because of the thickness of bathroom towels, but for a wash cloth it might work fine. Definitely a bargain, especially with Amazon's bundling of goods practice to cut down on shipping costs.
