It has 4 modes: one just keeps score if you hit the target, one records how many times you hit the target in about 5 seconds, one records how long it takes you to "double tap" the target, and another records how long from the alert until you hit it the first time. There are also several overlay screens which permit you to reduce the diameter of the target down to about 1/2" in diameter, requiring much more accuracy. With a Lazerlyte in your preferred carry defense tool, you can significantly improve your draw times and the semi-random factor keeps you honest. It's also fun to just rack up hits from distance (or with smaller targets). The tripod is nice; very adjustable and folds up neatly to the rear. My only gripe is it goes to sleep too fast and there is no way of waking it without walking over and pushing a button; would be nice to have remote wake-up with a couple hits in a short time frame.
