If it does not start the light will flash everytime the sparkplug gets power and then you know it is not an electrical problem. It can then be either a bad sparkplug or a fuel problem. If it does not flash when you pull the rope then it is an electrical malfunction (ie. magneto, points, or electronic ignition problem). Sure, you'll spend a bit more on it. For me, it was a "one time use" purchase however this was my *second* purchase because I bought another much cheaper brand the was broken upon arrival. In short, I didn't save any money buying the more affordable version. This Lisle tool is as all others have said, a very solid product with a bulb you can actual find and replace.
