Miles's Motivation Isn't Clear
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Vol. 1 takes place in an alternate universe where Peter Parker has died, still in high school. Before Parker dies, grade-school Miles Morales is bitten by a spider with the number "42" on it. Morales goes to a charter school with his friend and roommate, Ganke. Ganke represents the pre-adolescent nature of Miles, who is focused on school and, as the title progresses, being Spider-Man. Ganke plays with Legos and is thinking about starting to talk with girls. The Ultimates in that universe, who include Hawkeye, Spider-Woman, Nick Fury, and Iron Man, recruit the young Miles. The first volume of a new title has to capture the imagination, and while there's a lot of good about this title, Miles's character isn't totally fleshed out. In another title written by Brian Michael Bendis, The Ultimate Spider-Man, Peter Parker lets a criminal go despite having powers because Parker doesn't see why he should fight crime. When that same criminal kills Uncle Ben, a superhero is born. There is no moment like that in Miles Morales's story.Having a superhero in grade school can be done well. In Geoff Johns's Shazam, Billy initially uses his powers to push over cars and buy beer. I really don't feel that Morales is the kid he's supposed to be. I don't have a problem with them creating a new Spider-Man, and I think there's potential in Miles Morales's story. The universe he lives in is very well established, and he's stronger than Peter Parker, being able to blend into the background (chameleon power) and shock his enemies (venom power). Bendis is nothing but creative. I just think the title should have been better. ***

A good first impression
After killing off Ultimate Peter Parker, Marvel introduced Miles Morales back in 2011. People had mixed reactions at first, and if I'm being honest, so did I. But Miles has ended up growing on me, and this isn't one of those cases where the replacement character is basically just a clone of the original. Miles has his own strengths and personal issues to work through.Art, dialogue and overall story are fantastic. Only thing that keeps the book from being amazing is the overtly chummy view of charter schools. May seem a weird thing to get hung up on, but I have a problem with them. Other than that, it's a great book. I encourage you to try it out.

A Spider-Man for everyone to enjoy
fantastic story. I actually have every issue, it's familiar but gives Spider-Man the breath of fresh air that's been much needed. There are only a few things that don't quite make sense to me... 1. Spider-mans father who's African American is named Jefferson Davis... after the racist president of the southern confederate states.. I'm still trying to decide if it's insulting or poetic justice but am leaning more towards insulting. And for a while they went with the stereotypical family arch where his father leaves him. I suppose it would have been too much to ask for him just to have a normal family and break away from typical backstories. My last complaint is just that he seems to take off his mask in almost every new plot. It's happened so much that I kind of just want to give the writers a nice smack in the back of the head to get their comment sense jumpstarted.

I cant beleive how much I love this series
I myself being a long time Spiderman fan was very angry at the idea of Marvel ultimate line killing off Peter Parker and replacing the Spiderman mantle with this Miles Morales kid. Nothing to do with his ethnicity as I myself am Puerto Rican which is half the characters nationality. Boy was I shocked when reading these first six issues. Not only does this throw the entire universe for a loop but I absolutely love this kid. I hope this series goes on forever and eventually spins off a cartoon and who knows maybe even a movie. The story is fantastic and after purchasing the second graphic novel. I now own every individual issue to date. The artwork will blow you away as well. Sara Picelli is a Marvel - Pun Intended. The seller delivered in record time and the book was very well protected. Thanks again

Great!
Like many comic fans, I was annoyed with the intro of a new spider man. In my case, there already was one, so why another? The answer is miles Morales. He's a good kid, a likeable character, and his powers are slightly different. Plus he's in the ultimate universe, which marvel should never have cancelled. The sup supporting cast is nicely thought out and this was a good first arc. Oh, the art work is beautiful too.

Excellent Comic
Great comic. My son and I started reading these after watching Into the Spiderverse on Netflix. Very well written and drawn. We are slowly working our way through the series (he is three, so we usually read in chunks of four pages or so).

Great original bold move!
Great bold move by Marvel and Bendis. Great story with awesome dialogues as always. The actions could have been better but it is an origin (new one :p) anyway. I love Peter Parker a lot as Spiderman but this new Miles Morales character is intriguing and awesome in his own way. The character doesn't fall right under the shadows of Peter Parker even though it's really hard to do. Great job Bendis and Marvel! Looking forward to see how the future of this series go!

A Unique and Groundbreaking Must Read
I finally got the chance to read Miles Morales debut solo run as Spider-Man and it has not disappointed so far. Volume 1 is so good, I've already ordered Vol. 2!!Having never read a Spider-Man comic before, I feel I am not entirely best placed to offer comparisons to earlier offerings in the Spider-Verse, but I can compare it and critique it against comics I've read in other properties, such as X-Men, Deadpool/Cable, Snowpiercer and Heroes. The first thing that really impresses me is the artwork, it is genuinely unlike anything I've seen in my comic reading, and one thing that particularly stands out is Pichelli's use of characters eyes and facial expressions to really pull the reader in. Now, generally I find myself paying attention to the visual art of a comic, sometimes I can be reading a below par story/dialogue but still appreciate the artwork (see some Deadpool/Cable early issues), but this book has not only sublime visual depth but also an engaging and gripping plot.As introductions to superheroes go, it is simply wonderful. Mile's first appears briefly in Ultimate Comics Fallout, but when he then gets a full introduction to us in this book, we meet him with his family (mum and dad, plus a mysterious uncle), his friends (Ganke in particular is my new fave secondary character) and we get some Director Fury thrown in there too. As a 28 year old man, I find myself confused as to why I relate to where Mile's is at in his life and why I'm so excited to read this teenagers tales in high school and as a young hero. It's a little different to my usual comic reading habits to tell you the truth but as I alluded to earlier it has been a pleasant surprise. In the past I have steered clear of Spider-Man comics, because my impression is it's predominantly focused on high school and a teenager flying round wisecracking and defeating animal based villains, and it has never appealed to me in terms of reading (movies is different). What I'd heard about Miles Morales over the years, meant it was very intriguing to me and its groundbreaking place in comics history lead me to finally get round to reading it. It is in no way 'teenage' or 'childish', by my reckoning (and in agreement with the blurb on the back of the book) it can appeal to all ages and either regular comics readers or newcomers. It's a must read!!
