Q: can you use regular seed in this model.

Hi - you can use regular or mixed seed in this feeder. I use only sunflower seed, as I have a strong dislike of house sparrows and the regular feed attracts too many of them.Excellent feeder - very easy to dis-assemble and clean. Good luck.

Q: The bottom of this feeder blocks the bottom 2 perches so seeds cannot go down there. Is there a fix for this?

I get seed down there--but you have to clean it out occasionally. I soak it in hot soapy water and bought a special brush designed to clean tube feeders. I get the clumped seed out.

Q: I'm looking for a thistle feeder. Are the ports on this too large for that? Looks like the seed might jsut fall out

Drill Yankees does make a thistle version of this feeder with different ports. You might have to buy it directly from them. This one will not work with thistle.
