High power on hours, low power cycle count
Just picked up two of these from Server Parts Deals, and would like to give the drives 4.5 stars, but since I can't I'll round it up to 5. Only reason, as of now, that I would knock off a half a star would be because the two I received had over 28 thousand power on hours. But I bought renewed, so what did I expect, right? At least that tells me that these drives ran a long time with no issues. Crystal Disk Info also showed relatively low Power Cycle Counts of less than 20 each and no bad sectors. Price was good at the time, so when the time comes for me to pick up a few more, I wouldn't hesitate.

Took a Chance, Glad I did!
Why did you pick this product vs others?:I was first going to pick a new HDD for my NAS but so discouraged by the price. The date for my unit was 2024 and its currently 2025 but Hours on was Zero and both drives I got were detected and working great so far. Its a bit noisey but does not bother me since its in another room. I know its part luck to get good refurb items and so far so good.

A short, sad life.
When I plugged in the power and it began to spin up, I noticed a good bit of noise which soon turned into a grinding sound just before it spun down and went silent. If I hold it up to my ear I can hear a faint clicking, but still I think the poor thing is a goner. So sad. I like the price and the capacity is great, but when I started the return process and Amazon asked if I wanted another one just like it or a refund, I opted for the refund. Still trying to decide whether to give it another go or spend some extra money on a drive that is not “renewed.”

Perfect Product For Our Use
I've been buying 8GB USB backup drives for seemingly forever. We go through about 6 a year. I was buying them when they were on sale at the local Costco, but they've stopped carrying them. There are other suppliers of course, but it seems the costs of those drives has gone up a lot since the last batch I bought. So the search started for alternatives. For the most part, the duty is a year of light backup use, then they get moved to offline archive (read: stored in a fireproof cabinet) until/unless some of the archived data is needed. Seems like the perfect job for this recycled drive. So I bought one to try in parallel service before changing all of them.First, the drive arrived packaged well, and is cosmetically perfect. Other reviewers have reported some minor scratching or tool marks from prior service. This example has none. Not even a fingerprint. It's in a sealed antistatic bag. Had I not known that it's a recycled/refurbished drive, it could easily pass as brand new based on first impression.Powering it on was painless, with no need to play with power supply pins to avoid any inhibits that some others have mentioned. I suspect that's a 'feature' totally dependent on the particular power supply you have.Reading the stored stats from the drive reveal that it's been power cycled less than 20 times, and the service hours are well short of 50% MTBF, both indicators that this will be good in our service. Limited by the USB interface to the workstations, the read and write speeds aren't stellar. No fault of the drives of course, and based on the duty here (overnight incremental backups) those aren't really important to us.The drive was quickly identified when connected, and was scrubbed again before formatting. The drive itself is very quiet even just sitting exposed on a desktop mat during those operations.I anticipate rotating this drive into service in about a month. Based on our current arching rate, this 12TB drive should last a full year in service before it goes to storage. I'll call this demo a success for us if there are no issues during that time. Again, this is hardly a tough duty especially for an enterprise-class drive. The review will be updated if problems are discovered during the demo period.-----Yes, I am aware that the local workstation archive method is not what others might recommend. Things would be faster and certainly more physically secure using a NAS array with ethernet. The actual service requirements make that tough. So each workstation has its own archive. I'm winding the business down and firing clients as fast as we can. Less than two active years to go, plus seven years records retention after the lights go off.

Does not have middle mounting hole (only 2 on each side vs the normal 3)
Drive was packaged very well, multiple layers of bubble wrap, and placed in a sealed static bag. It also works great, is quiet and from operational perspective, no issues whatsoever and I'm quite happy with it in my Windows PC hosting a Plex server. But what was annoying is it only has 2 mounting holes on either side, so if you try to use a 5 1/4 to 3 1/2 adapter, or if your mounting rails use the two holes that are normally closer together, you may have to get a different mounting adapter to fit into your chassis. Every other SATA drive I've purchased has 3 holes on either side, giving multiple options to mount in a variety of installations. For now mine is laying on top of another drive until I can get a mounting rail that uses the outermost mounting holes. The image of the drive shows this, but it was not obvious to me when purchasing, nor would I have even thought about it until cracking open my computer case to drop it in.

Zero hours on each drive
Drives work perfectly. I checked the drives and they were officially refurbished drives with zero hours at time of install. Will update if something ends up going wrong with the drives but so far so good.

Be weary of the packaging... Inspect it quickly.
While the drive is working and "healthy" by the standards of crystaldisk, the packaging of this hard drive has me very angry. The drive was stored in a small box with no more padding than a single thin foam wrapper. I could hear the drive inside of the box banging around the walls when I picked it up to move it. Once I opened the box, I saw a smaller box inside of a thing foam sleeve. I opened the smaller box and while doing so, I heard what sounded like broken plastic sliding around the inside. Luckily, the broken plastic was from the thin plastic casing that the hard drive was inside. The plastic was broken and not delivering any protection since it was beaten so badly in shipping. While holding my breathe, I docked the new drive and attempted to use it, I was shocked that it actually worked. This is not acceptable, regardless of that. I know it works, but how am I supposed to know that there wasn't damage done that will cause me issues later? You can do better... Please respect the money of your customers and do not ship them something like it is just a useless thing that doesn't matter.
