Finally--real answers!
Thank god for this book. It saved my sanity. I had been running from doctor to doctor--none of whom could give a straight answer--and all of whom thought I should just cut out and dispose of my uterus!! I thought I was in a nightmare! I learned that there is clearly no consenus in the field of medicine--on anything--and yes, that should concern you all.My other concern was that the doctors knew so little and were so unable to answer my questions on the subject. I was scared to death--I had about a 2 pound fibroid in my uterus and still wanted to have a baby--and a frightening major surgery seemed to be the only option. This book helped arm me to speak with my doctors and convinced me to see a specialist (which was the best move I could have made.) The book helped me understand all of my options and exactly what was happening to my body and why--and how to possibly prevent future fibroids. This really allayed my fears. It is written in an easy to understand and unbiased style that gives me credit for being able to make my own intelligent decisions--unlike the multitude of male doctors I saw who treated me like an idiot (which I most assuredly am not). It is written by doctors who are experts on this condition. It is refreshing to see men take an interest in women's health conditions, and who clearly understand the serious effects they can have on quality of life. I have read others and think this is the best book on the subject.

Wish I'd found this book sooner
I had a myomectomy two weeks ago after doing much soul searching and online research on my fibroid condition, and, man, do I ever wish I'd discovered this terrific book about fibroids a year ago when my primary doctor discovered my fibroids. The first OBGYN I saw said my only option was hysterectomy -- but I was only 39 at the time and although I don't plan to have any more children, the thought of losing my uterus brought me to tears.I got a second opinion after waiting another six months and suffering from pain and bleeding. Fortunately, the second doctor was wonderful and really listened to me and my concerns. But if I had found this book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibroids," not only might I not have had to torture myself and be filled with so much fear, but I also would have felt more prepared for the surgery and what I am going through now during recovery. The book was published in 2003, so I wish there were an update as I am sure there have been medical breakthroughs in the past seven years. But overall, the book is comprehensive and balanced.A must read for any woman dealing with a fibroid diagnosis.

This book was pretty informative when it comes to the conventional standardized medical procedures, and especially one which the author indorses.I expected more I guess. If you are seeking a more natural approach then this is Not the book. The mentality is like most MD's, only surgeries or pills, or nothing. However, it does give you a pretty good overall availability of medical options out there and why hysterectomy is not always the best first option.

A good basis for understanding the many options for solving Fibroid Tumors
Woman are not aware that more than 70% of the western civilization deals with Fibroid tumors and although only 1% of fibroid tumors are cancerous...western physicians advise full hysterectomies when no one has been able to identify the cause of fibroid tumors. This book gives some basic understanding about options and signs to identify the symptoms caused by fibroid tumors.

The best book on fibroids I have read
This is the most comprehensive book on fibroids that I have read. It explains the different types, enumerates other conditions that may be confused for fibroids, details diagnosis techniques. It then thoroughly explores each treatment option currently available--and it is up-to-date, as opposed to another book I purchased which was so out of date it didn't even mention Uterine Artery Embolization. It gives statistics on the successes and complications from each treatment, and also suggests questions to ask your doctor and qualifications he/she should have. It assumes that you are intelligent enough to make up your own mind about what treatment you want and does not "sell" one over any other. It is just so refreshing!I recommend it to anyone who is trying to get through the maze of confusing information about fibroids.

Trust Your Doctor
I had read this book years ago, when I first learned at the age of 29 that I had a fibroid the size of a 4 month fetus in my uterus. Two of the three doctors I consulted with recommended myemectomy because they said a fibroid this large may interfere with conceiving a baby and/or interfering with the baby’s growth if I did get pregnant. The thought of surgery scared me but I also hoped to have children at some point. I read this book and it gave me more anxiety about my ability to have children in the future after myemectomy. It talked about how, if I had this surgery, my odds of conceiving or having a miscarriage will be higher. I was really scared. The wonderful New York City doctor (and fertility specialist) I ended up choosing for my myemectomy (as I decided to go forward with it) looked me straight in the eyes when I mentioned pregnancy fears this book brought about and said calmly and authoritatively: I don’t know what you read in that book but I am telling you now as my patient that you will be just fine and that you will be a mother after this procedure. Are you going to to believe me or this book?” I chose him and had the myemectomy. Today I am a happy mother of three healthy children that were born after uneventful healthy pregnancies without even a C section. The fibroids never grew back. I just wanted to share my story with all the women out there with fibroids and similar fears about their fertility after myemectomy. This books gives some good basic information about what the fibroids are (which frankly you can probably get from WebMd or Mayo Clinic also) but for any medical treatment, trust your doctor.

Superb. Covers Medical , surgical & natural treatment & research
Superb. It may not be the most recent fibroid book, but it covers all of the issues for medical, surgical & provides research on natural treatments ie food & exercise. This book was in advance of its time & still current as fibroid treatments havent changed substantially in the last 15 years. Its not illustrated. Another book i'd recommend if you also want illustrations is Its a Sistah thing: A Guide to understanding & dealing with fibroids for African American Women.Since these books were written , the condition appears to have previously been under diagnosed & its now believed that it occurs in up to 70% of Non Afro-caribbean women, & up to 80% of Afro caribbean women. So these books apply to a very wide group of women.

Mostly about surgery and medication, very little natural alternatives
This was a very disappointing book and misleadingly titled. It suggests that it offers alternative solutions to fibroids, but essentially the book just goes into detail about standard medical procedures for the problem. This is 'what your doctor may not tell you'. If you're looking for self help ideas such as diet, supplements and suitable exercise, look elsewhere because this book really doesn't go there. It offers a very brief paragraph on each of these aspects and the bulk of the book focuses on pharmaceutical medications and surgeries.

Educative book
This book tells a lot about fibroid that i was not aware of before and other ways fibroid can be dealt with without surgery. It is very educative.
