Q: So what's the differance between the ffm1, ffm2, or ffm5 for that matter?

Ffm1 is the Silicon version. Ffm2 is the Germanium version. Don't know about ffm5. They all have a slightly different sound. Each sounds great, though.

9v batteries provide enough power. Both can be used.
