It is a good book. Not the best textbook
It is a good book. Not the best textbook, but it has enough example problems to get you by.Dont think this book will teach you everything about Geotechnical Engineering though. It just opens the door.

Condensed Das
"Fundamentals of Geotechnical Engineering" is a combination of Das other two hugely successful books "Principles of Geotechnical Engineering" and "Principles of Foundation Engineering", it was the book I used for my introductory soil mechanics class back in college; it probably is just as good as "Principles of Geotechnical Engineering" for that purpose but It can't replace "Principles of Foundation Engineering". So chances are that when you have to take a foundation engineering class, you probably will still need to buy "Principles of Foundation Engineering".The book is very useful but it suffers from the same syndrome as other Das books where equations are just given to you without much conversation or explanation of their origins and limitations. However the examples in this book are different than the ones in the other two, so it's really good as a complimentary book to the other two. So if you like Das other two books this one is definitely a must have.
