Q: How do i know what nd level i am at? it only has markings but no numbers

The first dot past “min” is 1stop, the last dot before “max” is 9stops (8 2/3). When testing with PhotoPills on Nikon D5600 I found it’s not exactly right but don’t think any nd filters are. I set my aperture at f9 and took picture then adjusted aperture to f11 to bring down exposure. Hope this helps

Do not use any general purpose filter for solar eclipses. Depending on what kind of camera you have, you'll either damage the camera or your eye. Proper eclipse filters are available and are labeled for that purpose. They're typically ND100000.

50mm f1.4 is your focal length and aperture. You need to know your lens diameter. It's marked somewhere on the lens barrel. Then, buy the filter for that diameter. As long as the lens has threads and you get the proper diameter, this will fit your lens. I have 52, 55, 58 and 72mm. They work well.
