Professional grade video balun done right
These are professional quality high-bandwidth signal baluns which allow you to send an HDMI video signal over CAT5e or CAT6 networking cable to a TV which is not located next to your video source.Atlona is a professional brand that has been doing this kind of thing for long enough that they understand how to do things properly. There are a number of big plus points to this unit: - Excellent build quality - made from sheet steel with quality connectors and a decent power supply - This is way up the chain from your average fifty dollar made-in-china bargain basement device, and the quality shows. 1080p works properly and sync issues are almost non existent if you use high quality HDMI cables. - This model incorporates the ability to send Ethernet over the same connection, as well as IR for control of your remote cable box or BluRay player etc. Hide the balun behind a wall mounted TV, place an emitter on the source device, an IR receiver on the corner of the TV or just above it, and you can then point your cable remote at the TV and have it operate the source device without you having to get up. - Atlona's warranty program is fast and effective, operated by real human beings for whom English is their primary language. - Home grown tech company with top tier productsI do this for a living and Atlona is my brand of choice whether it's me paying for the product or someone else. Sometimes it's just worth paying that bit extra over the cheapest option in order to simplify your life!

No IR
After much research and talking to the manufacture, I ordered the RX and TX components. Well I received two RX's even though I was charged for the more expensive TX side. Neither contained the IR cables, which is why anyone would want to spend so much money on these parts in the first place. Called the manufacture up again and they said that "This always happens with Amazon". May be great for a audio/video expert, but not for the novice just wanting to do video / IR Remote control over cat6. It does not have to be this difficult. If you want this part, I would suggest that you go to an authorized Altona Reseller.

Works a treat
This was bought in conjunction with the Atlona AT-HDTX-RSNET RS-232 HDBaseT TX Box. The unit arrived promptly, well within the shipping times suggested.Installation was a little fiddly as you need to connect wires for the power and IR devices instead of a normal plug (like other IR devices). Set up overall was fairly easy and the pair of units (TX and RX) worked immediately. The only hiccup was when I moved the devices (initial test environment to permanent location - through RJ45/Cat6 in the wall), I needed to power-cycle them once and they worked perfectly again. At this stage, I have only 'extended' HDMI and IR (in one direction) as I haven't needed to extend Ethernet or RS232 yet. This item did include an IR Blaster and IR Receiver, but I can only use them reliably to about 4 metres.I would definitely recommend this item (in conjunction with the other).
