Q: How does this compare to kaytee pellets for half the cost?

These are much higher quality and don't dissolve so quickly in pond. Plus, they come in different size pellets for larger fish. I buy both and mix, saves money without fully lowering quality

Q: Has the packaging changed, or is this the same as the Hikari Gold medium pellets?

I do not believe that they are the same. Must have the wrong photo linked to the description. I buy both the Gold and Staple pellets for Koi in the large pellet size.

According to Google, Hikari is manufactured by Kyorin Food Industries, Ltd. in Japan

Q: Does this pellet sink? Last bag 50% sunk causing daily filter cleanouts. Thanks!

Thanks for your question! This item is a floating pellet food. However, floating pellet foods will sink when they become waterlogged after prolonged time in the pond. For this reason, only use as much food as the fish can eat in a few minutes.
